Combos chain when you kill enemies in quick succession (each kill resets a short timer). Kill 4 enemies without a >1 second pause between kills. Easy in any early densely-populated room.
Throw a brick at a wall so the ricochet hits an enemy. The brick rolls + bounces — angle it at 45 degrees toward an enemy 2 squares away from the wall. Practice in chapter 1 hallways.
Same as Beginner but 6 enemies in a row. Use melee + thrown weapons to keep tempo. Levels with grouped guards (early chapter 2-3) are ideal.
Throw a knife or melee weapon at enemy A. He flies back, drops his weapon (gun/blade), which slides into enemy B and kills them. Requires lined-up positioning. Specific level setups make this easier — chapter 7's narrow halls work.
Grab a wounded enemy (E key default), use them as a meat shield against incoming fire. Achievement on first use. Easy in any chapter with armed guards.
Dogs are the fast-aggressive enemies. Each killed counts. Earliest dog appearances are chapters 2-5. Cumulative; the achievement is ironically titled.
A+ requires high score + flexibility points (combo length, kill variety, speed). Replay early chapters until you nail the routing. Tony mask + execution focus = easy A+.
Each enemy kill counts. 1989 is the year Soviet collapse began (Hotline Miami's setting reference). Most players hit this naturally across 2-3 full playthroughs.
8 kills in chain. Plan a room before entering: identify the kill order, watch your combo timer. Use the Tony mask (faster combos) if you want help.
Beat all 16 chapters. The 'true' ending is a single playthrough's final cinematic. Story is intentionally cryptic; the achievement just requires you reach the end.
Find all hidden letters scattered through the game (one per level). After collecting all, the secret-ending level unlocks. Achievement triggers on that level's completion. Wiki has letter locations.
Throwing weapons through windows or shooting them. 200 across the game. Easy — every level has 5-10 glass panels.
Hotline Miami punishes mistakes — most players die a LOT. 1000 deaths is achievable in 2-3 full playthroughs naturally.
Big lobbies in later chapters. Hold-down doors with melee crowds. Mask: Rasmus (mask collector reveals) — but Tony's speed boost is the real combo tool.
Weapons unlock by KILLING ENEMIES with them or finding them in specific levels. Use every weapon at least once. Tracker is in the level-start menu. Wiki has the full weapon list.
Pick up every gun type during levels. Each one used = checkbox ticked. Easier with mask cycling that starts with different weapons (e.g., Don Juan starts with double-barrel).
Each level has 1 hidden letter (1 of letters that spell the secret-ending key). Some are in non-obvious rooms — break a wall, take a side passage. Wiki has comprehensive map.
## Best level
Chapter 'Crackdown' (chapter 7) has densely-packed thugs. Kick the door, gun-down 5+ instantly, melee-chain the rest before any escape.
## Mask choice
Tony (fists, faster combo timer) or George (slow-mo). George's slow-mo gives you breathing room to plan the next kill.
Bricks, knives, glass bottles, scissors, baseball bats, throwing stars. Throw each type at least once. Some are mask-specific (Dennis starts with throwable items).
Hotline Miami has multiple boss chapters: chapter 7's twin guards, chapter 11's drug dealer, chapter 15's final boss, and the secret-ending boss. Beat each. Cumulative across story.
After unlocking the secret ending, replay it on Hard difficulty. Hard mode makes enemies tougher, your one-shot deaths persist. Practice the level pattern + use Charlie or Dennis masks for advantage.
Chapter 5 uses only fists — no melee, no thrown, no gun pickups. Use Tony mask (free punches kill instantly). Plan room-by-room kill order; one mistake = restart.
Each level ends with you walking back to the car. 60 level-exits across all runs = achievement. Naturally hit during normal play.
Crowbar, knife, baseball bat, golf club, frying pan, machete, katana, etc. Pick up each one type and use it. ~12-15 melee weapons total.
Find two enemies aligned (one behind another). Throw a brick that passes through both. Easier with stationary guards. Best chapter: 'Hot & Heavy' (4) — many corridor lines.
## Mask sources
~25 masks total. Some unlock by:
- Completing chapters with specific actions
- Earning specific scores/grades
- Hidden letters (collectibles)
- Beating bosses in unusual ways
Wiki has the full unlock checklist. Most-missed: Rasmus (collector), Don Juan (knock-out doors), Dennis (knife start).
A specific room in late game has 3-4 enemies armed with bats/knives. Don't pick up any guns; melee-only your way through. Often involves Tony mask + Don Juan combos.
Late-game chapter has a hidden sewer section. Drop into a specific manhole or duct. Interact with the alligator in the dark. Achievement pops on encounter.
Molotov pickups in specific late-game chapters. Throw at an enemy. Fire kills them via burn-out. Wiki has the spawn locations.
After unlocking all masks (Zoo Keeper), cycle through and use each in a level start menu. Each unique mask equipped = 1 achievement progress. Tedious but tractable.
Hard chapters that allow this: chapter 12 ('Push It'). Use Don Juan mask (his door-knockouts incapacitate without killing). Knock everyone out, exit the chapter without a single kill. Practice required.
Triple kill with a single thrown brick. Find three aligned enemies, predict their movement, throw at the right moment. Tony mask's stronger throws + George's slow-mo help. Mostly luck-based once you find the right room.
Each weapon has a unique 'ground execution' when you stand on a downed enemy. The animation differs per weapon. Use every weapon to perform its ground execution. Wiki has the comprehensive list.
Every chapter needs an A+. Some are brutal (Tony's chapters, late-game complex layouts). Use specific masks per chapter for synergies. Multi-hour practice grind.
Auto-completes when every other achievement is earned. The hardest single-achievement requirement in the game.
