Mounting triggers from repeated aerial/mounted attacks (jump off a ledge or use the Clutch Claw and attack). Deal enough mount damage and you leap on for a topple. Happens naturally early; jumping attacks from cliffs are the easy way to force it.
Your first large-size crown (silver or gold) for any monster. Just keep hunting — eventually a monster spawns big enough to log a crown. This is the easy entry point to the whole crown system; the collector/master versions need many more.
Camps are extra fast-travel/rest points found while exploring the base maps. Find and establish five (each needs a small resource payment after locating the spot). Naturally done across the campaign as you explore Ancient Forest, Wildspire Waste, etc.
100 large-monster hunts/captures — a milestone toward Monster Hunter (500). Comes naturally partway through High Rank. Nothing to do but keep hunting.
Optional quests are the non-story quests on the board (they unlock gear, palico gadgets, and progression). Complete 50 — you'll do many just unlocking systems (e.g. the tailraider/argosy quests). Knock out the backlog of optionals and it pops.
Craft five weapons of a high rarity tier. Farm High Rank monster parts and build five different high-rarity weapons at the Smithy. Comes naturally as you craft endgame gear; 'Devastating Offense' is the extremely-rare (Iceborne) version.
Hold a million zenny simultaneously (don't spend below it). Sell high-value materials, farm the Steamworks (it pays out melding tickets + items you can sell), and stop buying gear until you cross a million. It naturally accumulates in the endgame if you sell excess parts.
The Steamworks (fuel minigame in Seliana, Iceborne) goes into Overdrive when you hit the timed button prompts correctly in a streak. Feed it Natural/Coal fuel and nail the A/B timing prompts to trigger Overdrive. 'Eager Engineer' (help 20 times) and 'Skilled Steamworker' come from playing the minigame — it's also a great money/item farm.
Capturing = weaken a monster until it's limping (skull on map / it flees to sleep), lay a Shock or Pitfall Trap, then hit it with 2 Tranq Bombs. Do this 50 times. Bring traps + tranqs on hunts and capture instead of killing when possible. 'Capture Novice' is your first; 'Master Capturer' is the MR version.
Elder Dragons include Nergigante, Kushala Daora, Teostra, Vaal Hazak, Kirin, Xeno'jiiva, etc. Farm any elder investigation repeatedly (Nergigante is a common, quick farm). 50 total across the game; endgame elder farming for gear gets you there.
HR is uncapped after you finish the High Rank story (beat Xeno'jiiva) — then HR rises fast from any quest. Farm Tempered monster investigations (big HR gains) and you'll hit HR 100 comfortably while chasing gear and crowns.
Investigations are the special quests earned by gathering monster tracks/parts (green/gold reward quests). Complete 50. They're the best endgame reward source, so you'll run hundreds while crown/gear farming — 50 is early. 'Insatiable Investigator' wants many more.
Same capture method, but in MR quests. Keep trap + tranq loadouts on your Iceborne hunts and capture rather than slay. 50 accrues over normal Iceborne progression — make capturing your default and it comes naturally.
Every large-monster hunt or capture across your whole save counts. 500 is a lot but accrues over a full playthrough plus endgame farming. Nothing special to do — it ticks up with everything else. 'Monster Slayer' (100) is the milestone on the way.
Hoarfrost Reach (the Iceborne map) has several camp sites. Explore it on expedition, find each camp location, and pay the resource cost to establish them. A map guide shows all camp spots; you can grab them all in one or two thorough expeditions.
Same as Elderslayer but the kills must be in MR quests. Iceborne adds many elders (Velkhana, Namielle, Ruiner Nergigante, Shara Ishvalda, the Fatalis/Alatreon events). Farm MR elder investigations; it comes with normal Iceborne endgame play.
MR unlocks and climbs after the Iceborne story. The fastest MR farm is the Guiding Lands and high-level Tempered investigations. MR 200 is a serious grind but happens naturally alongside decoration/crown farming — just keep hunting endgame quests.
Ten different monsters with a mini crown. Small-size spawns are random; re-run short quests for easy monsters. Small monsters like Kulu-Ya-Ku and the smaller bird wyverns crown quickly. Ten species comes well before the master version.
A lighter version of the master crown grind — just 10 different monsters with a gold crown. Focus on monsters with easy, quick quests and re-run them watching for oversized spawns. Ten species is very achievable on the way to the master version.
The small-size counterpart — record a mini crown (monster at/below the tiny-size threshold) for many species. Same RNG grind as giant crowns: re-run quests until a tiny one spawns. Some quests are known to favour small sizes for specific monsters — use a crown guide. Pairs with the Giant grind since you're re-hunting the same monsters.
Crowns are recorded when you hunt/capture a monster of extreme size. A GOLD crown = a monster at or above the giant-size threshold. Sizes are random per spawn, so you re-run quests/investigations until a large one appears. Speed it up: watch for size tells at quest start (compare to the environment), abandon-and-retry if it's small, and use investigations that spawn the target. Third-party size-checker tools/known good quests help. This is one of the grindiest achievements in the game.
Research level rises by hunting, capturing, and gathering tracks/parts of each monster. Max out nearly every large monster: hunt each several times and collect its footprints/traces. Endgame farming naturally maxes most; mop up the few you've under-hunted. 'Monster Ph.D.' is the high-rank milestone toward this.
The base-game 100% capstone. The long poles are the crown achievements (Giant/Miniature Crown Master/Collector — measuring monster size, heavily RNG), maxing research on almost all monsters, and finding all treasure. Everything else comes from a full High Rank playthrough plus grinding. Do the story, then farm optional quests and investigations for crowns while completing the Lynian Researcher/treasure and Steamworks tasks. Crowns are the last thing standing for most people.
Treasures are hidden collectibles per locale (found via exploration, endemic-life spots, and specific interactions). Use a treasure-location guide for each map and sweep every region. 'Veteran Collector' (all in one locale) and 'Fledgling Collector' (first) are steps toward this. Expeditions (free-roam) are the best way to hunt them without a quest timer.
The Iceborne expansion 100% — requires the Iceborne DLC. Big items: Master of Masters (MR 200), Master Slayer (50 elder dragons in MR), Master Capturer (50 captures in MR), all Hoarfrost Reach camps, and the Master Rank crown grind (Another Giant/Miniature Crown for endemic life + monster crowns). Grind Guiding Lands and high-value investigations for crowns and MR. As with the base game, crowns are the final wall.
