Death's Door â Achievement Walkthrough
24 achievement guides ¡ Full game page â
Jefferson is the squid chef you meet at the Stranded Sailor, the ship-shaped tavern area. When he offers you his soup, accept it. Guides place this naturally on the story route, so it usually unlocks without any extra effort as long as you say yes rather than declining.
Per community guides, the 'fan' is Grunt: free him from his cell in the Mushroom Dungeon (you need the Bomb spell to break him out), then go and talk to him again once he has turned up at the Stranded Sailor. If he is not there yet, progress the story a little and check back.
Stat upgrades are bought from the big crow in the Hall of Doors office using souls. Any mix counts: twelve purchases across Strength, Dexterity, Haste and Magic. You earn plenty of souls from the story, so this lands naturally around the middle of the game, and you need the purchases for Specialist and Lord of Chores anyway.
Each spell has an upgrade locked behind a challenge room. Community guides place the fire upgrade in a sealed room between the Estate of the Urn Witch and the Lost Cemetery, cleared by beating the mini-boss inside. Once you have the Fire spell, look for the sealed doorway on that route.
Story achievement for finishing the main campaign. It cannot be missed. Death's Door keeps going after the credits, and several other achievements (A Stroll with Jefferson, In Caw-Hoots, A True End) only open up once you have beaten the game, so keep playing your save afterwards.
Buy every upgrade level for one stat at the big crow in the Hall of Doors office. Guides list five levels per stat. Pick whichever stat suits you; if you are planning the umbrella run, Magic is the usual choice because spells do the heavy lifting.
The bomb upgrade sits behind a mini-boss challenge. Community guides put it at the eastern entrance of the Lost Cemetery, behind a wall you need the Bomb spell to break. Clear the fight inside to upgrade the spell.
The hookshot upgrade is found in the cave area between the Stranded Sailor and the Lost Cemetery according to community guides. Bring the Hookshot, cross the grapple points and beat the challenge inside.
There are five melee weapons. Guides list them as: the Reaper's Sword you start with, the Discarded Umbrella in the Hall of Doors, the Rogue Daggers in the Estate of the Urn Witch, the Thunder Hammer in the Mushroom Dungeon, and the Reaper's Greatsword at the Stranded Sailor, which is locked behind four hidden switches. Picking a weapon up is enough â you do not need to use it (which matters if you are doing the umbrella-only run).
The arrow (bow) upgrade is in a tower in the Lost Cemetery. Guides note it needs the Fire, Bomb and Hookshot spells first, so leave it until you have all three. It is worth getting early if you are attempting Academy of Umbrellas, because a stronger charged arrow makes the weak umbrella far more workable.
In the Estate of the Urn Witch there is an urn puzzle that opens Pothead's hidden garden. Solve it and step inside. The garden also holds the Rusty Garden Trowel, which you want for Reap What You Sow, and later one of the tablets for the true ending, so this is a key stop.
Barb is the musician at the Stranded Sailor. Guides say that after you have defeated the third Giant soul, talking to her gets you an offer to hear her song â accept it and listen. If she does not offer yet, push the story on and return.
Hidden on Steam. Community guides describe it as a post-game errand: after the final boss, ring the bell in the Lost Cemetery tower, retrieve a teddy bear from a platform at the Stranded Sailor and bring it to Jefferson. Exact steps not verified against a second source â see a community guide if anything has changed.
This happens during the Grandma (the Urn Witch) boss fight. In her second phase, guides advise hitting the pot lid with the Fire spell while she is busy firing projectiles. Do it before you finish her off â whether the fight can be repeated afterwards is not verified, so don't rely on a rematch.
There are 16 shrines, each granting extra health or magic. A community guide lists them as: Lost Cemetery 3, Estate of the Urn Witch 2, Ceramic Manor 1, Inner Furnace 1, Overgrown Ruins 3, Mushroom Dungeon 1, Flooded Fortress 1, Old Watch Towers 1, Stranded Sailor 2 and Castle Lockstone 1. Several need later spells, so finish the set once you have everything.
Gather ten or more of the little forest spirits so they trail behind you at once. Community guides do this in the Grove of Spirits on the way to the first boss. Collect them as you walk and they follow in a line.
Hidden on Steam. Guides describe meeting three owls after you beat the game, located in the Estate of the Urn Witch, the Overgrown Ruins and the Old Watch Towers. The owls are tied to the true-ending tablets, so this and A True End are worth doing together.
Collect all 50 Life Seeds and plant every one in the pots around the world. Once you have the Rusty Garden Trowel from Pothead's garden (see Plot Head), guides recommend using it to track down the last few seeds. Plant as you go so you are not hunting for empty pots at the end.
There are 24 shiny objects scattered across the world. Most need a specific spell to reach and a few only open up after the main story. Pick them up as you go and use a checklist from a community guide for the stragglers.
Hidden on Steam. Guides describe a post-game hunt for seven ancient tablets â in the Lost Cemetery, from the owls, Pothead's garden, an Overgrown Ruins chest, a Flooded Fortress shrine, the Old Watch Towers braziers and by defeating the Grave Digger â which unlocks the true ending. Locations from a single community guide; check a second guide if one is missing.
Everything at once: all seeds, shrines, shiny things, weapons, spell upgrades, tablets and owls. This pops last, after you have cleared the other collectible achievements in the post-game. Nothing in the list is time-limited, so mop up on your main save.
During the Frog King boss fight, wait for the second phase when he sucks in air, then throw a Bomb into his mouth. Do it before you win â whether the fight can be repeated is not verified, so don't rely on a rematch.
There is a metal detector near where the game starts. Per community guides, once you have finished the Ceramic Manor, lead a forest spirit through it so it goes off without you being the 'threat'.
A whole-game challenge. Guides warn that swinging any other melee weapon even once â including the starting sword before you have picked up the umbrella from the Hall of Doors â voids it, so most players do it on a fresh save. The umbrella deals far less damage, so lean on spells and the bow: put souls into Magic, get the arrow upgrade (Hawk Eye) and every shrine for extra health and magic, and use the umbrella only for quick hits. Check the weapon screen as you go; guides say an eligible umbrella shows a red background.
